3D Software Discussions

Carrara Carrara is a full-featured 3D computer graphics application featuring figure posing and editing, as well as nature modeling, in addition to traditional modeling, animation, texturing and rendering. The software is also capable of dynamic hair and fur simulations, particle effects, soft body and rigid body dynamics. Carrara is now owned and developed by Daz 3D. Carrara is compatible with Poser and Daz Studio formats of 3D figures and props. It is further supported by a number of 3rd party plug-ins and add-ons. Zbrush ZBrush is a digital sculpting tool that combines 3D/2.5D modeling, texturing and painting. It uses a proprietary “pixol” technology (see below) which stores lighting, color, material, orientation, and depth information for the points making up all objects on the screen. The main difference between ZBrush and more traditional modeling packages is that it is more akin to traditional sculpting. Bryce Bryce is a 3D modeling, rendering and animation program specializing in fractal landscapes.[3] The name is taken from Bryce Canyon—a rugged region with many of the same landscapes that were first simulated with the software.[4] Hexagon Hexagon is a subdivision-type 3D modeler owned by DAZ 3D. It was originally developed and published by Eovia[3] and was acquired shortly before the release of version 2.0 by DAZ 3D in 2006. The software drew heavily on Eovia’s other modeler, Amapi (it shared the same developers), though it omitted the NURBs and precision measuring tools.[ jargon ] The focus is subdivision modeling, but it includes spline tools and surface tools.[ jargon ] Because of the two omissions, it is not as well suited to product design as Amapi, but is aimed more at illustrative and character modeling, with an eye to making it accessible for those new to working in 3D. Poser Poser (and Poser Pro ) is a 3D computer graphics program distributed by Bondware. Poser is optimized for the 3D modeling of human figures, and has gained popularity due to beginners being able to produce basic animations and digital images, as well as the extensive availability of third-party digital 3D models. Maya Autodesk Maya , commonly shortened to just Maya (/ˈmaɪə/ MY-ə [3][4]), is a 3D computer graphics application that runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, originally developed by Alias Systems Corporation (formerly Alias|Wavefront) and currently owned and developed by Autodesk. It is used to create assets for interactive 3D applications (including video games), animated films, TV series, and visual effects. Blender Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software toolset used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, motion graphics, interactive 3D applications, virtual reality and computer games. Blender’s features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster graphics editing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, soft body simulation, sculpting, animating, match moving, rendering, motion graphics, video editing, and compositing. DAZ Studio Daz Studio is a software application developed and offered for free by Daz 3D. Daz Studio is a 3D scene creation and rendering application used to produce images as well as video. Renders can be done by leveraging either the 3Delight render engine, or the Iray render engine, both of which ship for free along with Daz Studio, or with a variety of purchasable add-on render engine plugins for Daz Studio from various vendors and companies. Modo Modo (stylized as MODO , and originally modo )[3] is a polygon and subdivision surface modeling, sculpting, 3D painting, animation and rendering package developed by Luxology, LLC, which is now merged with and known as Foundry. The program incorporates features such as n-gons and edge weighting, and runs on Microsoft Windows, Linux and macOS platforms. Cinema 4D Cinema 4D is a 3D software suite developed by the German company Maxon. Marvelous Designer Marvelous Designer is a 3D graphics application for modeling and rendering realistic and life-like garments and fabrics. Silo Silo is a polygon/subdivision surfaces 3D modeling application created by Nevercenter. It has a focus on quick editing, a customizable interface (all mouse buttons and keyboard shortcuts can be assigned to any function), and a flexible workflow.[1] [2] BlackSmith3D Blacksmith3D is a 3D sculpting and painting application now owned by Bondware and sold through Renderosity. 3ds Max Autodesk 3ds Max , formerly 3D Studio and 3D Studio Max , is a professional 3D computer graphics program for making 3D animations, models, games and images. It is developed and produced by Autodesk Media and Entertainment.[2] It has modeling capabilities and a flexible plugin architecture and must be used on the Microsoft Windows platform. It is frequently used by video game developers, many TV commercial studios, and architectural visualization studios. It is also used for movie effects and movie pre-visualization. For its modeling and animation tools, the latest version[ which? ] of 3ds Max also features shaders (such as ambient occlusion and subsurface scattering), dynamic simulation, particle systems, radiosity, normal map creation and rendering, global illumination, a customizable user interface, new icons, and its own scripting language.[3] Vue Vue is a software tool for world generation by e-on software with support for many visual effects, animations and various other features. The tool has been used in several feature-length movies. Mudbox Mudbox is a proprietary computer-based 3D sculpting and painting tool. Currently developed by Autodesk, Mudbox was created by Skymatter, founded by Tibor Madjar, David Cardwell and Andrew Camenisch, former artists of Weta Digital, where it was first used to produce the 2005 Peter Jackson remake of King Kong . Mudbox’s primary application is high-resolution digital sculpting, texture painting, and displacement and normal map creation, although it is also used as a design tool.
